9B3 In the name of Allah, the most gracious and merciful. They ask you^MS about spoils. Say^MS, “Spoils belong to Allah and his messenger, so fear Allah, reconcile among yourselves^MP, and obey^MP Allah and his messenger if you^MP are believers.

Truly believers are those who when Allah is mentioned, their hearts tremble, and when his signs are recited to them, it causes their faith to increase, and they trust in their Lord.

They perform the prayers and donate from what we have provided them.

They are true believers, and they have higher position, forgiveness, and generous provision with their Lord.

As your^MS Lord truly expelled you^MS from your^MS house, some believers hate it.

They argue with you^MS about truth after it became clear, as if they are being driven to death as they watch.

When Allah promises you^MP one of the two parties will be yours^MP, you^MP wish that the unarmed one would be yours^MP. Allah wants to fulfill the truth with his words, and root out disbelievers,

to fulfill the truth and nullify what is vain, even though wrongdoers hate it.

For you^MP ask your^MP Lord for help and he answers you^MP, “I will provide you^MP with a thousand angels following one another.”

Allah has made it all good news, so that your^MP hearts will be at rest. Salvation is only from Allah. Allah is mighty and wise.

*** When drowsiness covers you^MP as security from him, and he sends you^MP rain from the sky, it is to purify you^MP, send away Satan’s abomination from you^MP, bond your^MP hearts, and make your^MP feet strong.

Your^MS Lord inspired the angels, “I am with you^MP. Make^MP the believers firm. I will cast terror into the hearts of disbelievers, so strike^MP above their necks and strike their fingertips.”

That was because they contended with Allah and his messenger. Allah is severe in punishment to those who contend with Allah and his messenger.

So taste^MP it. Disbelievers will have the torment of hellfire.

Believers, if you^MP meet disbelievers marching, do not flee from them.

*** He who flees from them, unless it is to turn aside to fight or to retreat to a group, will receive Allah’s wrath. His abode will be hell, a dreadful destiny.

*** You^MP did not kill them, but Allah killed them. You^MS did not throw when you^MS threw, but Allah threw. He did it to test the believers well by it. Allah hears all and knows all.

Thus Allah weakens disbelievers’ plots.

If you^MP seek victory, you^MP will have it, and if you^MP desist, it will be better for you. If you^MP return, we will return, and your^MP group will not help you^MP at all, even if they are many. Allah is with believers.

Believers, obey Allah and his messenger. Do not turn away from him as you^MP hear.

Do not be like those who said, “We hear” when they do not hear.

9B4 The most evil living creatures to Allah are the deaf and dumb who do not comprehend.

If Allah had known any good in them, he would have made them hear. If he had made them hear, they would have turned away and rejected.

Believers, respond to Allah and his messenger when he calls you^MP to what gives you^MP life, and know that Allah passes between a person and his heart. You^MP will be gathered to him.

*** Fear a trial that will not afflict only the wicked among you^MP. Know that Allah is severe in punishment.

*** Remember when you^MP were few and weak in the land, fearing that people would carry you^MP off. He gave you^MP refuge, aided you with his salvation, and provided you^MP with good things, so that you^MP might give thanks.

Believers, do not betray^MP Allah and the messenger, and thus knowingly betray your^MP trusts.

Know that your^MP money and your^MP children are tests, and that there is a great reward with Allah.

Believers, if you^MP fear Allah, he will give you^MP discernment, propitiate your^MP bad deeds, and forgive you^MP. Allah has great grace.

Disbelievers were crafty against you^MS to keep you^MS in bonds, kill you^MS, or expel you^MS. They are crafty, and Allah is crafty, and Allah is the craftiest.

When our signs are recited to them, they say, “We hear. If we wanted to, we would have said something like this. Those are only ancient legends.”

They said, “Allah, if this is truth from you^MS, rain^MS stones upon us from heaven or give^MS us painful torment.”

Allah would not torment them while you^MS were among them, nor would he torment them while they were asking forgiveness.

But why should Allah not torment them, when they bar the way to the sacred place of worship? They were not its protectors. The godly are its protectors, but most of them do not know.

Their prayer at the sanctuary was only whistling and clapping. Taste torment for your^MP disbelief.

Disbelievers donate their money to blocking Allah’s path. They will donate it and it will make them sigh. They will be defeated, and disbelievers will be gathered to hell.

Allah will distinguish between the evil and the good, and set the evil on top of each other and pile them all up and send them to hell. They are lost.

Tell^MS the disbelievers, "If they stop, they will be forgiven for what is past. If they return, the traditions of the ancients are gone."

*** Fight them until there is no more sedition, and all religion is Allah’s. If they stop, Allah sees what they do.

If they turn away, know that Allah, your^MP Lord is a wonderful Lord and a wonderful savior.

10A1 Know that a fifth of your^MP booty is for Allah, the messenger, relatives, orphans, the poor, and travelers. Give this if you^MP believe in Allah and in what we revealed to our servant on the day of distinction, the day the two groups met. Allah can do anything.

*** You^MP were on the near side of the valley and they were on the far side and the caravan was below you^MP. If you^MP had made an appointment, you^MP would have differed about the time. Allah predestined a matter, and it was done, and he will destroy those he will based on a miracle, and give life to whom he wills based on a miracle. Allah hears all and knows all.

*** Allah will show them to you^MS as few in your^MS dream. If Allah showed them to you^MS as many, you^MP would have failed and disagreed about the matter, but Allah gave peace. He knows what is in the heart.

He showed them to you^MP as few when you^MP met, and made you^MP seem few in their eyes. Allah predestined a matter, and it was done. Matters return to Allah.

*** Believers, if you^MP meet a party, stand firm^MP and remember^MP Allah frequently, so that you^MP may be successful.

Obey^MP Allah and his messenger, and do not quarrel^MP, lest you^MP fail and your^MP power fail. Endure, for Allah is with those who endure.

*** Do not be like those who went out of their homes in insolence and hypocrisy toward people, blocking Allah’s path. Allah is aware of what they do.

*** Satan made their deeds seem fair to them, and said, “No one will defeat you^MP today. I am your^MP neighbor.” When the two parties saw each other, he retreated on his heels, and said, “I am innocent towards you^MP. I see what you^MP do not. I fear Allah, and Allah is severe in punishment.”

*** The hypocrites and those with sick hearts say, “Their religion has deceived them.” Allah is mighty and wise to those who trust in Allah.

*** If you^MS see when the angels cause the disbelievers to die, they beat their faces and their backs. “Taste the torment of the fire.”

*** That is because of their deeds. Allah does not wrong the servants.

*** They disbelieved in Allah’s signs as did Pharaoh’s family and those before them, so Allah seized them for their sins. Allah is strong, and is severe in punishment.

*** That is because Allah would not change his blessings toward people until they change what is within them. Allah hears all and knows all.

They rejected their Lord’s signs like Pharaoh’s family and those before them, so we destroyed them for their sins and drowned Pharaoh’s family. They were all wicked.

The most evil living creatures to Allah are the disbelievers. They do not believe.

Those with whom you^MS made a treaty break it all the time and are not godfearing.

If you^MS meet them in war, use them to disperse^MS those behind them, so that they may remember.

If you^MS fear treachery from people, reject^MS them as well. Allah does not love traitors.

Let the disbelievers not think that they have won. They cannot frustrate [them].

Prepare as much as you^MP can against them – forces and horses tethered – to terrify Allah’s enemy and yours^MP, and others besides them whom you^MP do not know. Allah knows them. Whatever you^MP spend in Allah’s path will be repaid to you^MP, and you^MP will not be wronged.

10A2 If they incline to peace, incline^MS to it. Trust^MS Allah. He hears all and knows all.

If they want to deceive you^MS, Allah is adequate for you^MS. He aids you^MS with his salvation and with the believers.

He united their hearts. If you^MS were to donate everything on earth, you^MS would not unite their hearts, but Allah united them. He is mighty and wise.

Prophet, Allah is adequate for you^MS and the believers who follow you^MS.

Prophet, exhort^MS the believers to the battle. If there are twenty who endure, they will defeat two hundred, and if there are a hundred of you^MP, they will defeat a thousand disbelievers, for they are people who do not understand.

Allah has lightened it for you^MP. He knows that there is weakness among you^MP. If there are a hundred who endure, they will defeat two hundred, and if there are a thousand, they will defeat two thousand with Allah’s permission. Allah is with those who endure.

The prophet should never have taken prisoners unless there was a great slaughter in the land. You^MP want this world’s goods, and Allah wants the hereafter. Allah is strong and wise.

If not for a previous book from Allah, you^MP would have been touched by great torment for what you^MP took.

Eat^MP of the booty you^MP have taken. It is allowed and good. Fear^MP Allah. Allah is forgiving and merciful

Prophet, say to those you^MP took as prisoners, “Allah knows of good in your^MP hearts, he will give you^MP good for what was taken from you^MP. Allah will forgive you^MP. He is forgiving and merciful.

If they want to betray you^MS, they have betrayed Allah previously, so this is possible from them. Allah is all-knowing and wise.

*** Those who believed, emigrated, and struggled in Allah’s path with their money and themselves, and those who sheltered and delivered are friends of each other. You^MP are to have no friendship with believers who did not emigrate until they do so. If they ask you^MP for help in religion, you^MP must help them, except for people with whom you^MP have a treaty. Allah sees your^MP deeds.

Disbelievers are friends with each other. If you^MP do not do this, there will be strife and great destruction in the land.

*** Believers who emigrated and struggled in Allah’s path and those who sheltered and delivered are true believers. They have forgiveness and a generous provision.”

Those who believed later, emigrated and struggled with you^MP are some of your^MP own, and blood relatives are closer to each other in Allah’s book. Allah knows everything.
