8B1 In the name of Allah, the most merciful and Gracious.ALMS.
0
2
A book was revealed to youMS, so do not let there be any difficulty in yourMS heart because of it, so youMS may warn with it. [It is] a reminder for believers.
0
3
FollowMP what was revealed to youMP from yourMP Lord, and do not followMP any helpers beside him. YouMP remember little.
0
4
How many villages we destroyed! Thus our vengeance came upon them at night or napping.
0
5
Their only prayer, when our vengeance came to them, was that they said, “We were wicked.”
0
6
We will certainly ask those who were sent to them, and we will certainly ask the messengers.
0
7
We will relate knowledge to them, and we were not absent.
0
8
The weighing that day is the truth. Those whose weight is heavy are successful.
0
9
Those whose weight is light will lose their souls, because they were wicked regarding our signs.
0
10
We established youMP on the earth and we gave youMP provision. How little youMP give thanks.
0
11
We created youMP, then formed youMP, then told the angels, “BowMP down to Adam.” All except Iblis bowed down; he did not bow down.
0
12
He said, “What kept youMS from bowing down, since I commanded youMS?” He said, “I am better than he is. YouMS created me from fire, and youMS created him from clay.”
0
13
He said, “Go downMS from it. YouMS have no right to be proud in it. So goMS out. YouMS are contemptible.
0
14
He said, “ReprieveMS me until the day they are resurrected.”
0
15
He said, “YouMS are reprieved.”
0
16
He said, “Since youMS have led me astray, I will sitMS in ambush for them on yourMS straight path.
0
17
Then I will come to themM in front of them, behind them, on their right and on their left. You’llMS find most of them do not give thanks.”
0
18
He said, “Go outMS of it, despised and rejected.” I will fill hell with youMP: youMS and those among them who follow youMS.
0
19
Adam, youMS and yourMS wife, liveD in the heavenly garden, and eatD wherever youD want. Do not comeD near this tree, or you’llD beD wicked.”
0
20
Satan whispered to themD to show themD theirD hidden shame; he said, “YourD Lord only forbade this tree to youD lest you be angels or immortal.”
0
21
He swore to themD, “I am yourD advisor.”
0
22
So he guided themD in temptation, and when theyD tasted the tree, theirD shame was apparent to themD and they beganD to sewD leaves of the heavenly garden upon themselvesD. Their Lord called themD, “Did I not forbid youD from that tree and tell youD, Satan is truly a clear enemy to youD?”
0
23
TheyD said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if youMS do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will certainly be lost.”
0
24
He said, “Go downMP, each of youMP an enemy to each other. You have the earth to settle on, and enjoy for a while.”
0
25
He said, “On it, youMP will live and die, then be broughtMP forth from it.
0
26
Children of Adam, we have sent down upon youMP clothing and feathers to hide yourMP shame. The clothing of godliness is the best.” This is one of Allah’s signs, so that theyMP may remember.
0
27
Children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt youMP as he expelled yourMP ancestorsD from the heavenly garden, stripping theirD clothing from themD to show them theirD shame. He and his tribe see youMP from where youMP do not see themMP.” We have made devils helpers of those who do not believe.
0
28
If theyMP commit promiscuity, they say, “We found our fathers doing it and Allah has commanded us to do it too.” SayMS, “Allah does not command promiscuity. Do youMP say what youMP do not know about Allah?”
0
29
SayMS, “My Lord has commanded justice. Set yourMP faces straight at every place of worship, and pray toMP him with sincere religion. As he created youMP, youMP will return.”
0
30
One group he guided and another group deserved to stray. TheyMP took devils as helpers besides Allah, and imagine that they are guided.
0
31
8B2 Children of Adam, takeMP yourMP apparel at every place of worship, eatMP and drinkMP, but do not wasteMP. He does not love the wasteful.
0
32
SayMS, “Who forbids Allah’s adornment, which he brought forth for his servants, and the good things of the provision?” SayMS, “It is for the believers in this world, ready on the day of resurrection.” Thus we explain signs for people who know.
0
33
SayMS, “My Lord has forbidden both public and private promiscuity, guilt, unlawful oppression, belief in other gods besides Allah, for which he has not given authority, and saying things youMP do not know about Allah.”
0
34
Every nation has its lifespan, and when their time comes, they cannot delay it or advance it by one hour.”
0
35
Children of Adam, messengers will come to youMP telling youMP our signs. Those who are godly and make amends shall not fear or grieve.
0
36
Those who reject our signs and are proud against them will go to hellfire, where they will be forever.
0
37
Who is more wicked than him who invents a lie about Allah or who rejects his signs? They will receive their portion from the book. Even when our messengers come to them to make them die, they say, “Where are the gods youMP prayed to besides Allah?” They said, “They have strayed from us. They witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.
0
38
He said, “Enter among the nations of jinns and people that have passed away before youMP into hellfire.” Every time a nation enters, they curse their sister nations, until they are all overtaken in it. Then the last will tell the first, “Our Lord, these made us go astray, so give them double the torment in hellfire.” He said, “All will get double, but youMP do not know.”
0
39
Then the first told the last, “YouMP have no more grace than we do, so taste the torment youMP deserve.
0
40
Heaven’s doors will not be opened to those who reject our signs and are proud against them, and they will not enter the heavenly garden until a camel goes through the eye of a tailor’s needle. Thus we repay wrongdoers.
0
41
Their abode is hell, and they will be covered. Thus we repay the wicked.
0
42
We do not burden believers who do righteous deeds with more than what they can bear. They will go to the heavenly garden and be there forever.
0
43
We tore out the enmity from their hearts, and made rivers flow underneath them. They said, “Praise be to Allah, who guided us to this. We would not have been guided unless Allah had guided us. Messengers of our Lord came with truth, and they were told, “This is the heavenly garden. YouMP have inherited it for yourMP deeds.
0
44
Heaven’s inhabitants called to the inhabitants of hellfire, “We found what our Lord promised to be true. Have youMP found what yourMP Lord promised to be true?” They said, “Yes.” A caller among them called, “Allah’s curse is on the wicked,
0
45
who block others from Allah’s path and want it crooked. They disbelieve in the hereafter."
0
46
Between them is a curtain, and over the dividing wall are men who are all known by their mark. They called the inhabitants of heaven, “Peace be upon youMP.” They have not entered it as they desired.
0
47
8B3 If their gaze is averted towards the inhabitants of hellfire, they said, “Our Lord, do not put us with wicked people.”
0
48
Those on the dividing wall called men they knew by their mark. They said, “YourMP hoarding did not benefit youMP, nor yourMP pride.
0
49
Are those the ones youMP swore about: Allah will not reach them with mercy? Enter the heavenly garden, neither fearing or grieving.”
0
50
The inhabitants of hellfire called to the inhabitants of the heavenly garden, “PourMP on us some extra water or whatever Allah has provided youMP.” They said, “Allah has forbidden both of them to disbelievers.”
0
51
Today we will forget those who take their religion as an amusement and a game, whom this world has tempted, just as they forgot the meeting on their day with them. This is because they deny our signs.
0
52
We brought them a book which we explained according to knowledge as guidance and mercy to people who believe.
0
53
They only wait for its interpretation. When its interpretation comes, those who forgot it beforehand will say, “Messengers of our Lord came with truth. Do we have intercessors to intercede for us, or will we be returned and do differently than what we used to do? They have lost their souls, and what they lied about has strayed from them.
0
54
YourMP Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then sat down on the throne. He covers the night with the day, following it quickly. The sun, moon and stars are subject to his command. Does he not have creation and a command? Blessed be Allah, Lord of the universe.
0
55
Pray to yourMP Lord in supplication and in secret. He does not love transgressors.
0
56
Do not cause destruction on the earth after it has been made right. Pray to him in fear and desire. Allah’s mercy is near to those who do good.
0
57
He sent the winds bearing good news in front of his mercy, until it bears heavy clouds, which we brought upon a dead land, sent rain down from it, and brought forth by it all kinds of fruit. This is how we bring forth the dead, so that youMP may remember.
0
58
The good land brought forth its plants with its Lord's permission, and the evil one brings forth only little. Thus we explain the signs to people who give thanks.
0
59
We sent Nuh to his people. He said, “My people, worship Allah. He is yourMP only god. I fear that youMP will suffer the torment of a great day.
0
60
The nobility of his people said, “We think youMS are clearly led astray.”
0
61
He said, “My people, I have not gone astray, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the universe.
0
62
I bring youMP my Lord's messages, and I advise youMP. I know things from Allah that youMP do not.
0
63
Are youMP amazed that the reminder came to youMP from yourMP Lord by a man from among youMP to warn youMP, so that youMP would be godfearing and receive mercy.
0
64
So they rejected him, and we rescued him along with those who were with him in the ark. We drowned those who rejected our signs. They were blind people.
0
65
8B4 To Aad [we sent] their brother Hud. He said, “My people, worship Allah. He is yourMP only god. Are youMP not godfearing?”
0
66
The disbelieving nobility of his people said, “We think youMS are silly. We think youMS are a liar.”
0
67
He said, “My people, I am not silly, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the universe.
0
68
I bring youMP messages from my Lord, and I am a faithful advisor.
0
69
Do youMP like it that a reminder has come from yourMP Lord to a man from among youMP to warn youMP. Remember when he made youMP regents after Nuh’s people, and he increased yourMP stature among the creation, so rememberMP Allah’s benefits so that youMP may prosper.
0
70
They said, “Have youMS come to us so that we would worship only Allah and leave what our fathers worshiped? BringMS on what youMS promise us if youMS are telling the truth.”
0
71
He said, “Abomination and anger has fallen on youMP from yourMP Lord. Do youMP argue with me about names youMP and yourMP fathers gave, about which Allah has not revealed authority? So wait. I am waiting with youMP.
0
72
So we rescued him and those who were with him by our mercy. So we cut off the stragglers of those who rejected our signs. They were not believers.
0
73
And [we sent] Thamud their brother Salih. He said, “My people, worship Allah. He is yourMP only god. A miracle has come to youMP from yourMP Lord: this female camel of Allah’s is a sign for youMP. Let her eat on Allah’s land, and do not touchMP her with evil, or painful torment will seize youMP.
0
74
Remember when he made youMP regents after Aad. He settled youMP in the land, where youMP made palaces of its plains and carved mountains into houses. Remember Allah’s benefits and do no evil, causing destruction on the earth.
0
75
The proud nobility of his people told the believers who were weakened, “Do youMP know that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?” They said, “We believe his message.”
0
76
The proud said, “We disbelieve what youMP believe.”
0
77
They hamstrung the female camel and were insolent against their Lord's command, and said, “Salih, bring on what youMS promised us if youMS are a messenger.”
0
78
Trembling overtook them and in the morning, they were face-down in their houses.
0
79
He turned away from them, and said, “My people, I told youMP my Lord’s message and advised youMP, but youMP do not like advisors.”
0
80
And [remember] Lut, when he told his people, “Do youMP commit promiscuity that no one in the world before youMP has ever done?
0
81
YouMP go after men in lust instead of women. and further, youMP are dissipated people.
0
82
His people’s only answer was, “ExpelMP them from yourMP village. They are people who purify themselves."
0
83
And we rescued him and his family, except for his wife, who delayed.
0
84
And we rained upon them. See the punishment of wrongdoers!
0
85
And to Midian, [we sent] their brother Shuaib. He said, “My people, worship Allah. He is yourMP only god. A miracle has come to youMP from yourMP Lord, so useMP a just measure and scale, and do not lessenMP people’s things, nor causeMP destruction in the land after it has been made right. That is better for youMP, if youMP are believers.
0
86
Do not sitMP on every path, threatening and blocking believers in Allah from his path, desiring to make it crooked. Remember when youMP were few and he multiplied youMP, and see the punishment of the corrupt.
0
87
If one group of youMP believed in my message and another group did not believe, endure until Allah judges among us. He is the best judge.
0
88
9A1 The proud nobility of his people said, “Shuaib, we will expel youMP and those who believed with youMS from our village unless youMP return to our spiritual path.” He said, “Even if we hate it?
0
89
We would be lying about Allah to return to yourMP spiritual path after Allah rescued us from it. We cannot return to it except if Allah, our Lord, wills. Our Lord knows everything. We trust in Allah. Our Lord, give true victory between us and our people in truth. YouMS are the best victor.
0
90
The disbelieving nobility of his people said, “If youMP follow Shuaib, youMP will be lost.”
0
91
Trembling overtook them and in the morning they were face- down on the ground in their houses.
0
92
It was as if those who rejected Shuaib did not dwell in it. Those who rejected Shuaib were lost.
0
93
So he turned away from them and said, “My people, I have delivered my Lord’s messages to youMP, and advised youMP. How could I be sad about disbelieving people?”
0
94
Every time we sent a prophet to a village, we afflicted them with misfortune and harm, so that they would humble themselves.
0
95
Then we replaced the bad with goodness until they abounded, and they said, “Harm and joy touched our fathers. We seized them suddenly. They did not realize it.
0
96
If only the inhabitants of the village had believed and feared Allah, we would have poured blessings upon them from heaven and earth. But they rejected, so we took them, as they deserved.
0
97
Did the village people feel safe that our affliction would [not] come to them by night while they slept?
0
98
Did the village people feel safe from our affliction coming to them in the morning as they played?
0
99
Did they feel safe from Allah’s deceiving? Only people who are lost feel safe from Allah’s deception.
0
100
Did he not guide those who inherited the land from its inhabitants? If we willed, we would have punished them for their sins. We seal their hearts, so they do not hear.
0
101
We tell youMS the news about those villages. Their messengers came to them with miracles, and they would not have believed in what they rejected beforehand. Thus Allah seals the hearts of the disbelievers.
0
102
We did not find a covenant with most of them. We found most of them unbelievers.
0
103
Then we sent Musa after them with our signs to Pharaoh and his nobility, and they were wicked regarding them. See the punishment of the corrupt?
0
104
Musa said, “Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the universe.
0
105
*** It is fitting that I say nothing except the truth about Allah. I have brought youMP a miracle from yourMP Lord, so sendMS the people of Israel with me.”
0
106
*** He said, “If youMS are going to bring a sign, then bringMS it on if youMS are telling the truth.
0
107
So he threw down his staff, and it was clearly a serpent.
0
108
He took out his hand and it was white to those who saw it.
0
109
The nobility of Pharaoh’s people said, “This is a learned magician.
0
110
He wants to expel youMP from yourMP land. What do youMP command?”
0
111
They said, “Put him and his brother off, and send assemblers to the cities,
0
112
who will bring youMS every learned magician.”
0
113
The magicians came to Pharaoh and said, “We get a fee if we are victorious.”
0
114
He said, “Yes. And youMP will be brought close.”
0
115
They said, “Musa, either youMS throw first, or we will.”
0
116
He said, “ThrowMP.” When they threw, they magically tricked people’s eyes and terrified them with the great magic they brought.
0
117
9A2 We inspired Musa, “Throw yourMS staff. It will swallow their lies.
0
118
Then the truth came forth and what they did was in vain.
0
119
They were defeated there and were overthrown, humiliated.
0
120
So the magicians fell down, bowing down on the ground.
0
121
They said, “We believe in the Lord of the universe,
0
122
the Lord of Musa and Harun.”
0
123
Pharaoh said, “Have youMP believed before I gave youMP permission? This is a deceitful thing youMP have done in the city, in order to expel its inhabitants. YouMP shall know.
0
124
I will cut off yourMP hands and feet on opposite sides, then crucify all of youMP.”
0
125
They said, “We will return to our Lord,
0
126
and youMS are only taking revenge on us because we believed in the signs of our Lord when we saw them. Our Lord, give us endurance and let us die submitted.
0
127
The nobility of Pharaoh’s people said, “Will youMS let Musa and his people go to cause destruction in the land, while he forsakes youMS and yourMS gods?” He said, “We will slaughter their sons and let their women live. We will be victorious over them."
0
128
Musa told his people, “Ask Allah for help and endure. The land is Allah’s and he gives it to those of his servants he wills. The godly will be rewarded.”
0
129
They said, “We were hurt before youMS came to us and after youMS came to us.” He said, “YourMP Lord may destroy yourMP enemy and cause youMP to be regents over the land. He watches yourMP deeds.
0
130
We afflicted Pharaoh's family for years with lack of fruit so that they may remember.
0
131
When something good happened to them, they said, “This is ours.” When something bad happened to them, they said it was an evil omen of Musa and those with him.” Actually they were blaming Allah, but most of them do not know.
0
132
They said, “YouMS bewitch us with every sign youMS bring us, so we will not believe in youMS.
0
133
We sent upon them the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood, detailed signs. But they were proud, and were wrongdoers.
0
134
*** When the plague fell upon them, they said, “Musa, pray to yourMS Lord by the covenant he made with youMS. If youMS lift the plague from us, we will believe in youMS, and will send youMS off with the people of Israel.
0
135
*** Then we lifted the plague from them for a time and they got what they wanted. Then they broke their oaths.
0
136
So we took revenge upon them, and drowned them in the sea because they rejected our signs and ignored them.
0
137
Then we made the people who were weak inherit the east and the west of the land we blessed, and the best word of yourMS Lord was fulfilled to the people of Israel because they endured. We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people had made and built.
0
138
We made the people of Israel pass through the sea, and they came to people worshiping their idols. They said, “Musa, make us a god like the gods they have.” He said, “YouMP are ignorant people.
0
139
What they are involved in will be destroyed and their works will be vain.”
0
140
He said: “Shall I seek a god for youMP other than Allah, who preferred youMP above all mankind?”
0
141
When we rescued youMP from Pharaoh’s family who afflicted youMP with torment, slaughtering yourMP sons and letting yourMP women live, that was a great plague from yourMP Lord.
0
142
9A3 We made an appointment with Musa for thirty days, and we completed them with ten more, so the total amount of time he was with his Lord was forty nights. Musa told his brother Harun, “Take my place with my people and do good. Do not follow the path of the corrupt.”
0
143
When Musa came to our appointment and his Lord spoke to him, he said, “My Lord, show me how to look to youMS.” He said, “YouMS will not see me, but look at the mountain. If it remains in its place, youMS will see me.” When his Lord appeared to the mountain, he pulverized it to powder. Musa fainted. When he revived, he said, “May youMS be glorified. I repent to youMS, and am the first believer.”
0
144
He said, “Musa, I have chosen youMS to be over the people with my message and my words. Take what I gave youMS and giveMS thanks.”
0
145
So we wrote everything for him on the tablets as an admonition and explanation of everything. Take it firmly and command yourMS people to take the best of it. I will show youMP the house of the unbelievers.
0
146
I will turn those who are unjustly proud on the earth away from my signs. Even if they see every sign, they will not believe in them. If they see the path of guidance, they will not take it. If they see the path of wrong, they’ll take it. That is because they rejected our signs and neglected them.
0
147
The works of those who disbelieve in our signs and in an appointment with the hereafter will be in vain. Will they not be paid back for their deeds?
0
148
After him, Musa’s people took their jewelry [to make] the body of a calf that mooed. Did they not see that it did not speak to them or guide them on a path? They took it and were wicked.
0
149
When it fell from their hands, and they saw that they had gone astray, they said, “If our Lord does not have mercy on us and forgive us, we will definitely be lost.”
0
150
When Musa returned to his people, angry and sad, he said, “YouMP sure did a dreadful job in my place after I left. Were youMP in a hurry regarding yourMP Lord’s command?” He threw down the tablets and grabbed his brother by his head, dragged him to himself. He said, “Son of my mother, the people weakened me and almost killed me, so do not make my enemies rejoice over me, and do not put me with wicked people.
0
151
He said, “Lord, forgive me and my brother and make us enter yourMS mercy. YouMS are the most merciful of all.”
0
152
Those who chose the calf will receive their Lord’s anger, as well as humiliation in this world. Thus we repay liars.
0
153
YourMS Lord is forgiving and merciful toward those who do bad deeds and later repent and believe.
0
154
When Musa’s anger subsided, he took the tablets. There was guidance and mercy in its copy for those who are in awe of their Lord.
0
155
Musa chose from his people seventy men to meet us. When they began trembling, he said, “My Lord, if youMS willed, youMS could have destroyed them and me beforehand. Do youMS destroy us because of deeds of the foolish ones among us? That is only yourMS trial, in which you lead astray those youMS will and guide those youMS will. YouMS are our protector, so forgive us and have mercy on us. YouMS are the best forgiver.
0
156
9A4 Record a good deed for us in this world and in the hereafter. We have returned to youMS. He said, “I afflict those I will with my torment, and my mercy embraces everything. I will write it for those who are godly, pay the poor-tax, and believe in our signs."
0
157
Those who follow the messenger, the Gentile prophet, whom they find written about in the Tawrah and Injil. He promotes virtue, prevents vice, allows good things for them, forbids evil things, and takes away their burden and the chains that bound them. Those who believed in him, strengthened him, saved him, and followed the light that descended with him are successful.
0
158
SayMS, “People, I am Allah’s messenger to youMP. The kingdom of the heavens and the earth are his. He is the only god. He gives life and causes death, so believe in Allah and his messenger, the Gentile prophet who believes in Allah and his words. Follow him so youMP may be guided.”
0
159
Among Musa’s people are a nation who guides and acts justly with the truth.
0
160
We split them up into twelve tribes or nations, and inspired Musa, when his people asked him for drink, “StrikeMS the rock with yourMS staff.” Twelve springs of water sprang forth from it. All the people knew where they were to drink and we overshadowed them with the cloud, and sent manna and quails down upon them. EatMP of the good things we have provided for youMP. They did not wrong us, but they wronged themselves.
0
161
They were told, “LiveMP in this village and eatMP in it wherever youMP want. SayMP: Forgiveness. EnterMP the door bowing down, and we will forgive yourMP faults. We will increase those who do good.”
0
162
The wicked among them substituted a different saying for what they had been told, and we sent a plague upon them from heaven for their wickedness.
0
163
Ask them about the village by the sea, when they broke the sabbath, when their whales appeared clearly to them on their sabbath, and when they did not rest, they did not come. Thus we try them for their unbelief.
0
164
One nation among them said, “Why do youMP preach to people Allah will destroy or torment severely?” They said, “As an excuse to their Lord, that they may be godly.”
0
165
When they forgot what they had been reminded of, we rescued those who forbade wrong, and seized the wicked in miserable torment for their unbelief.
0
166
When they were insolent in what they were forbidden, we told them, “Be driven away like apes.”
0
167
YourMS Lord proclaimed, “Those who will punish them with wicked punishment will seek them until the day of resurrection.” YourMS Lord is swift in punishment, forgiving and merciful.
0
168
We split them up in the land as nations. Some of them were righteous and others less so. We tried them with good deeds and bad deeds so that they may return.
0
169
A succeeding generation followed them and inherited the book. They take this world’s goods and say, “It will be forgiven for us.” If similar goods come to them, they take them. Was the book’s covenant not made with them, to say only the truth about Allah? They studied its contents. The abode of the hereafter is better for the godly. Do youMP not comprehend?
0
170
Those who hold the book tightly and perform prayers are righteous, and we will not lose their reward.
0
171
9B1 We shook the mountain above them as if it were a covering, and they thought it would fall on them. TakeMP what we have given youMP firmly and remember what is in it so that youMP may be godly.
0
172
YourMS Lord made a covenant with the children of Adam and their seed after them, and made them swear against themselves: Am I not yourMP Lord? They said, “Yes.” We testify that youMP will say on the day of resurrection, “We were unaware of this,”

Tell the stories, so that they may consider.
