The English Reference Qur’an

In the name of Allah, the most gracious and merciful. May the works of disbelievers who block [others] from Allah’s path go astray.

He has expiated the bad deeds of believers who do righteous deeds, who believe in what was revealed to Muhammad, which is truth from their Lord, and he has made their minds righteous.

That is because the disbelievers have followed vain things, while believers follow truth from their Lord. Thus Allah makes proverbs for people.

If you^MP find disbelievers, strike their necks until, when you^MP press heavily upon them, you tighten their bonds. Then afterward either be gracious or [allow] redemption until war lays down its burden. Thus it is. If Allah had willed, he would have been victorious over them, but this was to test some of you^MP with each other. The works of those who are killed in Allah’s path will not go astray.

He will guide them, make their minds righteous,

and cause them to enter the heavenly garden he made known to them.

Believers, if you^MP help Allah, he will help you^MP and make your^MP feet firm.

May disbelievers be miserable and their works go astray,

since they hated what Allah revealed, and he made their deeds in vain.

26A3 *** Have they not walked through the land and seen the end of those before them? Allah destroyed them, and disbelievers will be similar.

*** That is because Allah is the believers’ protector, while disbelievers have no protector.

Allah will cause believers who do righteous deeds to enter heavenly gardens with flowing rivers underneath. Disbelievers enjoy life and eat just like cattle eat, and hellfire will be their abode.

How many villages stronger than the village you^MS were expelled from did we destroy, and they had no savior.

Are those who trust in a miracle from their Lord like those who think their evil deeds are fair and follow their desires?

The heavenly garden the godly are promised is like rivers of clear water, rivers of unspoiled milk, rivers of delightful wine, and rivers of strained honey. There they will have all kinds of fruit and forgiveness from their Lord. Are they like those who are in hellfire forever, given boiling water to drink that tears out their intestines?

Some of them listen to you^MS, and when they go out from you^MS, they say to those who are learned, “What did he say?” Allah has sealed their hearts.” They follow their desires.

Those who were guided get more guidance, and he gives them their godliness.

Will they see anything besides the hour coming upon them suddenly? Its signs have come. When their reminder comes upon them, what will they do?

Know^MS that Allah is the only god, and ask^MS forgiveness for your^MS sin and that of male and female believers. Allah knows your^MP behavior and your^MP dwelling.

The believers say, “If only a chapter had been revealed.” When a clear chapter was revealed and fighting was mentioned in it, you^MS see those with sick hearts looking at you^MS as if they were fainting and near death. It is more important for them

to be obedient, and to speak kindly. When the matter has been determined, it would have been better for them to have been true to Allah.

When you^MP turned away, could you^MP have caused destruction on the earth, and cut off^MP your^MP relatives?

Those are the ones Allah has damned, made deaf, and blinded.

*** Have they not reflected on the Qur’an? Or are their hearts locked?

*** Satan has seduced and given more time to those who turned back after guidance was made clear.

That is because they told those who hated what Allah revealed, “We will obey you^MP in part of the matter.” Allah knows what they conceal.

What will happen when the angels cause them to die? They will beat their faces and backs.

That is because they followed what enrages Allah and they hate pleasing him, so he has made their deeds to be in vain.

Do those with sick hearts think that Allah will not expose their hatred?

If we willed, we would show them to you^MS and you^MS would know them by their mark. You^MS will know them through the tone of their speech. Allah knows your^MP deeds.

We will test you^MP to know those who struggle and endure among you^MP and we will test your^MP news.

Disbelievers who block [others] from Allah’s path and resist the messenger after guidance has been made clear to them will not harm Allah at all, and he will frustrate their deeds.

26A4 Believers, obey Allah, obey the messenger, and do not frustrate your^MP deeds.

Allah will not forgive disbelievers who block [others] from Allah’s path and then die while still disbelievers.

Do not be^MP weak or call^MP for peace, since you^MP will be higher, Allah is with you^MP, and he will not defraud you^MP of your^MP works.

This life is play and amusement. If you^MP believe and are^MP godly, he will give you^MP your^MP reward, and will not ask you^MP about your^MP money.

If he asks you^MP for it, he will be insistent. You^MP are miserly and he will expose your^MP hatred.

You^MP are called to donate in Allah's path. Some of you^MP are miserly, and such misers are miserly to the detriment of their own souls. Allah is self-sufficient and you^MP are poor. If you^MP turn away, he will exchange you^MP for other people, who will not be like you^MP.
