17A1In the name of Allah, the most gracious and merciful. People’s reckoning has come near, though they are unaware and turn away.
0
2
Whenever an updated reminder of their Lord comes, they listen to it while they play.
0
3
Their hearts are entertained and the wicked secretly conceal. “Is this not just a man like youMP? Will youMP bring magic while youMP watch?”
0
4
He said, “My Lord knows what is said in heaven and earth. He hears all and knows all.
0
5
But they say, “Confused dreams. He invented it. He is a poet. Let him bring on a sign, like the early messengers.
0
6
No village we destroyed before them believed. Will they believe?
0
7
All we sent before youMS were men whom we inspired, so askMP the people of the reminder if youMP do not know.
0
8
We did not give them bodies that did not eat food, nor were they immortal.
0
9
Then we fulfilled the promise made to them and rescued them and those we willed, and we destroyed the wasteful.
0
10
We have revealed to youMP a book in which is yourMP reminder. Do youMP not comprehend?
0
11
How many wicked villages we shattered, and raised up other people after them.
0
12
When they sensed our power, they ran from it.
0
13
Do not runMP away, but return to the riches youMP were given and to yourMP dwellings, that youMP may be questioned.
0
14
They said, “Woe to us. We were wicked.”
0
15
That was their cry until we destroyed and extinguished them.
0
16
We did not create heaven and earth and what is between them in play.
0
17
If we had wanted amusement, we would have done it ourselves, if at all.
0
18
Rather we throw the truth against what is vain and destroy it, so it vanishes. Woe to youMP for yourMP description.
0
19
Everyone in the heavens and the earth is his, and those with him are not too proud or tired to worship him.
0
20
They glorify him night and day and do not grow weary.
0
21
Or have they taken gods from the earth who resurrect?
0
22
If there were gods in either of thembesides Allah, they would have decayed. May Allah, Lord of the throne, be glorified above what they describe.
0
23
He will not be asked about what he does, but they will.
0
24
Have they chosen gods beside him? SayMS, “Bring on yourMP proofs. This is a reminder of him who is with me, and a reminder of him who was before me.” Most of them do not know the truth, so turn away.
0
25
Every messenger we sent before youMS we inspired: “I am the only god, so worship me.”
0
26
They said, “The most gracious has chosen a boy.” May he be glorified. Rather, honored servants
0
27
do not say things before he does, and they do what he commands.
0
28
He knows what is in front of them and what is behind them, and they only intercede for him who is pleasing. They are in terror and fear of him.
0
29
17A2 We will repay any of them who says, “I am a god besides him” with hell. That is how we repay the wicked.
0
30
Do disbelievers not know that the heavens and the earth were one mass and we split them and made every living thing from water. Do they not believe?
0
31
We made firm mountains lest it move with them and we made mountain passes as paths, so that they may be guided.
0
32
We made the sky a preserved roof, yet they turn away from its signs.
0
33
He created night and day, the sun and the moon, each swimming in its orbit.
0
34
We gave immortality to no one before youMS. If youMP die, will they be immortal?
0
35
Every soul will taste death. We will test youMP with evil and good as a trial and youMP will return to us.
0
36
If the disbelievers see youMS, they will make fun of youMS, “Is this the one that mentioned yourMP gods?” They disbelieve at the mention of the most gracious.
0
37
Man was created out of haste. I will show youMP my signs, so do not be in a hurry.
0
38
They say, “When will this promise be, if youMP are telling the truth?”
0
39
If only disbelievers knew the time they will not be able to keep hellfire from their faces or backs, nor be saved!
0
40
It will come upon them suddenly, astounding them. They will not be able to repel it, and they will have no more time.
0
41
Messengers before youMS were mocked, and those who made fun of them were surrounded by what they had made fun of.
0
42
SayMS, “Who will keep youMP safe by night and day from the most gracious?” But they turn away from the reminder of their Lord.
0
43
Do they have gods besides us that will prevent them? They are not able to save themselves, nor be protected from us.
0
44
But we made them and their fathers enjoy things until they grew old. Do they not see that we come to the land and lessen it on its edges? Are they victors?
0
45
SayMS, “I warn youMP by inspiration.” But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned.
0
46
If the breath of yourMS Lord’s torment touches them, they will say, “Woe to us! We were wicked.”
0
47
We set up just scales for the day of resurrection. Not a soul will be wronged at all. We will bring even the weight of a mustard seed. We are sufficient reckoners.
0
48
We gave Musa and Harun the criterion, shining, and reminder to the godly,
0
49
who fear their Lord in the unseen world, and are in terror of the hour.
0
50
And this is a blessed reminder we revealed. Do youMP deny it?
0
51
17A3We gave Ibrahim his guidance beforehand, and we knew him.
0
52
He told his father and his people, “What are these statues youMP are devoted to?”
0
53
They said, “We found our fathers worshipping them.”
0
54
He said, “YouMP and yourMP fathers have clearly gone astray.
0
55
They said, “Have youMS brought truth to us, or are youMS playing?”
0
56
He said, “YourMP Lord is Lord of the heavens and the earth, which he created, and I testify to that.”
0
57
By Allah, I will plot against yourMP idols after youMP turn and go away.
0
58
He shattered them, except for a big one they had, so that they would return to him.
0
59
They said, “Who did this to our gods? He is wicked.”
0
60
They said, “We heard a young man named Ibrahim mentioning them.”
0
61
They said, “Bring him before the people, so that they may witness.
0
62
They said, “Did youMS do this to our gods, Ibrahim?”
0
63
He said, “Rather this big one did it to them. Ask them, if they speak.”
0
64
They turned back to themselves, and said, “YouMP are wicked.”
0
65
Then they were turned upside down. “YouMS know that these do not speak.”
0
66
He said, “Do youMP worship what cannot help youMP or harm youMP instead of Allah?”
0
67
Shame on youMP and what youMP worship other than Allah! Do youMP not comprehend?
0
68
They said, “BurnMP him and rescueMP yourMP gods, if youMP do anything.”
0
69
We said, “Fire, be coldness and peace to Ibrahim.”
0
70
They wanted to plot against him, so we made them the most lost.
0
71
We rescued him and Lut [and brought them] to a land we blessed for all mankind.
0
72
We gave him Ishaq and Yaqub in our bounty; both we made righteous.
0
73
We made them leaders who guided people by our command. We inspired them to do good deeds, perform the prayers, and pay the poor-tax, and they worshiped us.
0
74
We gave Lut judgment and knowledge and rescued him from the village that did wickedness. They were bad, unbelieving people.
0
75
We made him enter our mercy. He was righteous.
0
76
Nuh, beforehand, called and we answered him and rescued him and his family from the great distress.
0
77
We saved him from people who rejected our signs. They were bad people, and we drowned them all.
0
78
Dawud and Sulayman judged about a field where the people’s sheep strayed. We were witness of their judgment.
0
79
We made Sulayman understand it, and we gave both judgment and knowledge. With Dawud, we made the mountains and the birds praise. We did that.
0
80
We taught him to make garments for youMP, to protect youMP from yourMP misery. Do youMP give thanks?
0
81
We made the wind blow at Sulayman’s command on the land we blessed. We knew everything.
0
82
Some devils dived for him and did other work, too. We protected them.
0
83
17A4 Ayyub called to his Lord, “Harm has touched me, and youMS are the most merciful of all.”
0
84
We answered him and took away the harm, and brought him his family and others in addition as our mercy and a reminder for those who worship.
0
85
Ismail, Idris, and Dhu-Al-Kifl endured.
0
86
We made them enter our mercy. They were righteous.
0
87
Dhu-Al-Nun went angrily, thinking we were not more powerful than he. He called from the darkness, “YouMS are the only god. May youMS be glorified. I was wicked.”
0
88
We answered him and rescued him from the darkness. Thus we rescue believers.
0
89
Zakariyya called to his Lord, “My Lord, do not leave me without an heir. You are the best giver of inheritance.”
0
90
We answered him and gave him Yahya. We made his wife fertile to him. TheyMP tried to outdo each other in good deeds, and in praying to us in desire and awe. They were humble.
0
91
We breathed into her who guarded her chastity of our Spirit, and made her and her son a sign for all the universe.
0
92
This nation of yoursMP is one nation. I am yourMP Lord, so worshipMP me.
0
93
But they split up the matter among them. All will return to us.
0
94
The efforts of any believer who does righteous deeds will not be denied. We will write them down for him.
0
95
Any city we have destroyed is forbidden. They will not return
0
96
until Yajuj and Majuj are loosed and hasten from every hill
0
97
and the true promise approaches. Disbelievers’ eyes will stare, "Woe to us! We were unaware of this, and were wicked.”
0
98
YouMP and the gods youMP worship besides Allah are fuel for hell, and youMP are going there.
0
99
If they were gods, they would not have entered it. All will remain in it forever.
0
100
In it, they will sob and not hear.
0
101
Those to whom we did good are far away.
0
102
They hear no sound and they will be where their souls desired forever.
0
103
The great terror does not make them grieve, and the angels receive them, “This is yourMP day youMP were promised.”
0
104
It is the day we roll up the heavens like a scroll, just like we began creation at first, we promise we will restore it, and we will do it.
0
105
We have written in the Zabur after the reminder, “My righteous servants will inherit the earth.”
0
106
This is an announcement to people who worship.
0
107
We sent youMS only as a mercy to mankind.
0
108
SayMS, “I received inspiration that yourMP god is one god. Are you submitted?”
0
109
If they turn away, sayMS, “I have proclaimed to youMP all alike, even though I do not know whether what youMP have been promised is near or far.
0
110
He knows what is said publicly, and he knows what youMP hide.
0
111
For all I know, it might be a trial for youMP, and enjoyment for a while.
0
112
He said, “My Lord, judge truly. Our Lord is the most gracious, whose help is sought against what youMP describe.”
