16B1 In the name of Allah, the most gracious and merciful. TH.
0
2
*** We did not reveal the Qur’an to youMS so that youMS would be miserable,
0
3
but rather as a reminder to those who fear,
0
4
revealed by him who created the earth and the heavens above.
0
5
The most gracious sat down on the throne.
0
6
He has everything in the heavens, the earth, between them, and under the earth.
0
7
If youMS make public a saying, he knows the secret and hides it.
0
8
Allah is the only god; he has the beautiful names.
0
9
Have youMS received the story of Musa?
0
10
When he saw a fire, he told his family, “Wait here! I notice a fire. I may bring youMP a coal from it or find guidance on it.”
0
11
When he came to it, he was called: “Musa!
0
12
It is I, yourMS Lord, so take off yourMS shoes. YouMS are in the holy valley of Tuwa,
0
13
and I have chosen youMS, so listen to what is inspired.
0
14
*** It is I, Allah. I am the only god, so worship me and perform the prayers to remember me.
0
15
*** The hour is truly coming. I almost hide it so that every soul would be rewarded for what it strives for.
0
16
Do not letMS those who disbelieve in it block youMS from it, make youMS follow his desire, and so perishMS.
0
17
What is that in yourMS right hand, Musa?
0
18
He said, “It is my staff, which I lean on and bear down fodder for my sheep, among other things.”
0
19
He said, “Throw it down, Musa.” So he threw it down, and it actually became a snake crawling.
0
20
He said, “Take it and do not be afraid. We will restore it to its former state.
0
21
Put yourMS hand in yourMS armpit, and it will come out white, but unharmed as another sign,
0
22
so that we may show youMS some of our greater signs.
0
23
GoMS to Pharaoh. He has been a tyrant.”
0
24
*** He said, “Lord, open my heart,
0
25
and make my task easier,
0
26
and untie the knot in my tongue
0
27
so they understand what I say.
0
28
Give me an aide from my family,
0
29
Harun my brother.
0
30
Support me through him.”
0
31
Let him share my task
0
32
*** so that we may glorify youMS often,
0
33
and remember youMS frequently.
0
34
YouMS see us.”
0
35
He said, “YouMS have obtained yourMS request, Musa,
0
36
and we granted youMS a favor another time,
0
37
when we inspired yourMS mother with an inspiration:
0
38
*** CastFS him in the ark, and throwFS it into the water, that the water may cast him onto the shore and an enemy of mine and of his will take him. I cast my love upon youMS that youMS might be formed under my watch-care,
0
39
*** when yourMS sister was walking and said: Shall I guide youMP to someone who will take care of him? And we restored youMS to yourMS mother so that her eyes would be refreshed and not grieve. And youMS killed a man and we rescued youMS from distress, and tested youMS with trials. YouMS remained years among the people of Midian. Then youMS came by destiny, Musa.
0
40
*** I made youMS for myself.
0
41
YouMS and yourMS brother go with my signs and do not neglectD to remember me.
0
42
*** GoD to Pharaoh; he is a tyrant.
0
43
SpeakD gently to him. Perhaps he will remember or fear.
0
44
TheyD said, “Our Lord, we fear that he would be insolent or tyrannical with us.”
0
45
He said, “Do not fearD; I am with youD. I hear and see.
0
46
So goD to him and sayD, “We are messengersD of yourMS Lord. SendMS the people of Israel and do not tormentMS them. We have come to youMS with a sign from yourMS Lord. Peace be upon those who follow guidance.
0
47
It has been revealed to us that whoever rejects and turns away will be tormented.”
0
48
He said, “Who is yourD Lord, Musa?”
0
49
He said, “Our Lord created and guided everything.”
0
50
He said, “Then what about the former generations?”
0
51
He said, “That knowledge is with my Lord in a book. My Lord does not go astray or forget.
0
52
He made the earth as a cradle for youMP, made paths for youMP, sent rain from the sky, and made all kinds of plants.”
0
53
EatMP and tend yourMP cattle. Those are signs for those who understand.
0
54
16B2 We created youMP from it, and we will return youMP into it, and from it we will bring youMP out at another time.
0
55
We showed him all our signs and he rejected and refused them.
0
56
He said, “Musa, Have youMS come to expel us from our land with magic?
0
57
We will bring youMS similar magic. Set an appointment between us and youMS in a suitable place. We will not be late, nor should youMS.”
0
58
He said, “YourMP appointment is on the feast day. Let the people be gathered in the morning.”
0
59
So Pharaoh turned away and finalized his plot. Later, he came.
0
60
Musa told them, “Woe to youMP. Do not tell lies about Allah, or he will destroy youMP with torment. Liars will be disappointed.
0
61
So they disputed with each other about the matter, and concealed their private discussion.
0
62
They said, “TheseMD are magiciansMD who wantMD to expelMD youMP from yourMP land with theirMD magic and make yourMP exemplary ways vanishMD.
0
63
So make yourMP plot, and comeMP in a line. Whoever is higher today will prosper.
0
64
They said, “Musa, either youMS cast first, or we will.”
0
65
He said, “CastMP. Their ropes and staffs seemed to him to run by their magic.
0
66
Musa’s soul was afraid.
0
67
We said, “Do not fearMS. YouMS are superior.
0
68
Cast down what is in yourMS right hand and it will swallow what they did. They made a plot of magic. Magicians will not prosper anywhere.
0
69
The magicians fell down, bowed down and said, “We believe in the Lord of Harun and Musa.”
0
70
He said, “YouMP believed in him before I gave youMP permission. He is yourMP superior, who taught youMP magic. I will cut off yourMP hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify youMP on palm tree trunks. YouMP will know who is harsher and more permanent in torment.
0
71
They said, “We will not prefer youMS over the miracles that have come to us and him who created us. Decree whatever youMS want. YourMS decrees only affect this life.
0
72
We believe in our Lord so that he will forgive us our faults and the magic youMS imposed on us. Allah is better and more lasting.
0
73
He who comes to his Lord as a wrongdoer will go to hell, where he will neither die nor live.
0
74
Those who come as believers who did righteous deeds will be exalted to the highest ranks:
0
75
heavenly gardens of Eden with flowing rivers underneath, where they will be forever. That is the reward of those who are purified.
0
76
We inspired Musa, “Take my servants and strike a dry path for them in the sea. Do not fear being caught from behind. Do not be afraid.
0
77
*** And Pharaoh followed them with his army, and some of the water covered them.
0
78
*** So Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide.
0
79
People of Israel, we rescued youMP from yourMP enemy and made an appointment with youMP on the right side of the mountain. We sent down upon youMP manna and quail.
0
80
EatMP the good things we have provided youMP and do not transgressMP in them, or my anger will come upon youMP. If my anger comes upon anyone, he will fall.
0
81
I am most forgiving to him who repents, believes, does righteous deeds, and then is guided.
0
82
16B3 Musa, what made youMS hurry in front of yourMS people?
0
83
He said, “They are following me and I hastened to youMS, Lord, so youMS would be pleased.”
0
84
*** He said, “We have tempted yourMS people after youMS, and the Samaritan has led them astray.”
0
85
Musa returned to his people angry and sorrowful. He said, “My people, did yourMP Lord not give youMP a good promise? Did the time grow too long for youMP, or did youMP want yourMP Lord’s anger to come upon youMP? Is that why youMP broke my promise?”
0
86
They said, “We did not break yourMS promise intentionally. But we had to carry the burdens of the finery of the people. So we threw it, as did the Samaritan,
0
87
and he brought out a body of a calf that mooed. They said, “This is yourMP god, and Musa’s god,” and he forgot.
0
88
*** Do they not see that it will not speak back to them, and that it cannot harm them or help them?
0
89
*** Harun told them beforehand, “My people, youMP were tempted with it, and yourMP Lord is the most gracious. So followMP me and obeyMP my command.”
0
90
*** They said, “We will not stop worshiping it until Musa comes back.
0
91
*** He said, “Harun, what prevented youMS when youMS saw them going astray?”
0
92
“Do youMS not follow me? Have youMS thus disobeyed my command?”
0
93
He said, “Blood brother, do not takeMS me by the beard or the head. I feared that youMS would say: YouMS made a division among the people of Israel, and did not observeMS my saying.”
0
94
He said, “What’s the matter with youMS, Samaritan?”
0
95
He said, “I saw what they did not see, and grabbed a handful from the messengers footsteps and threw it. It seemed good to me.
0
96
*** He said, “GoMS. In this life, youMS must say: Untouchable. YouMS have an appointment youMS cannot miss. Look at yourMS god that youMS kept worshipping. We will burn it and scatter its ashes in the water.
0
97
YourMP god is Allah. He is the only god. He knows everything.”
0
98
Thus we relate to youMS some events that happened beforehand. We have given youMS a reminder from us.
0
99
He who turns away from it will carry a burden on the day of resurrection
0
100
forever. It will be an evil burden to them on the day of resurrection.
0
101
On that day a trumpet will be blown and we will gather the wrongdoers on that day. They will turn blue
0
102
and speak softly among themselves, “YouMP remained only ten.”
0
103
We know better what they say, for the most distinguished among them in the way will say, “YouMP stayed only a day.”
0
104
They ask youMP about the mountains. SayMS, “My Lord will crush them to powder
0
105
and leave them on a level plain
0
106
on which youMS see nothing crooked or curved.”
0
107
On that day, they will follow the caller in whom there is nothing crooked, and voices will humble themselves before the most gracious. YouMS will hear nothing but whispers.
0
108
On that day, intercession will not help, except for him who has the most merciful’s permission, and whose statement he is pleased with.
0
109
He knows what is in front of them and behind them, and they do not know about him.
0
110
16B4 Faces will humbled before the Living, Eternal One. He that carries injustice will be disappointed.
0
111
A believer who does righteous deeds will not fear being cheated or wronged.
0
112
Thus we revealed an Arabic recitation and explained threats in it, that they may beware or be reminded.
0
113
Exalted be Allah, the True King. Do not hurryMS with the Qur’an before its inspiration is decreed to youMS. SayMS, “Lord, giveMS me more knowledge.”
0
114
And we made a covenant with Adam beforehand, but he forgot, and we found no determination in him.
0
115
*** When we told the angels, “Bow down to Adam,” all except for Iblis bowed down. He refused.
0
116
So we said, “Adam, he is an enemy to youMS and yourMS wife, so do not let him expel youD from the heavenly garden and youMS be miserable.
0
117
YouMS have the privilege of not being hungry or naked in it,
0
118
nor will youMS thirst in it, nor be exposed to the sun.”
0
119
Satan whispered to him, saying, “Adam, shall I guide youMS to the tree of eternity and a kingdom that lasts forever?”
0
120
And theyD ate of it and theirD shame was apparent to them, and they began sewing on themselves leaves of the heavenly garden. Adam disobeyed his Lord and went astray.
0
121
Then his Lord chose him, accepted his repentance, and guided him.
0
122
He said, “Go downD from it, everyone of youMP an enemy to the others. If guidance comes from me to youMP, whoever follows my guidance will not go astray or be miserable.
0
123
But he who turns away from remembering me has a narrow life, and on the day of resurrection we will gather him blind.”
0
124
*** He will say, “My Lord, why have youMS gathered me blind, when I used to be sighted?”
0
125
*** He said, “Thus it is. Our signs came to youMS and youMS forgot them, so today youMS will be forgotten.
0
126
Thus we repay the wasteful one who did not believe in his Lord’s signs. The torment of the hereafter is harsher and more permanent.”
0
127
Has he not guided them how many generations before them we destroyed as they walk in their dwellings? Those are signs for those who understand.
0
128
If a word from yourMS Lord and a fixed period of time had not come previously, judgment would have come.
0
129
So endureMS what they say, and glorify yourMS Lord before sunrise, before sunset, and in the night. Thus glorify and praise him at the borders of the daytime, so that youMS might be pleased.
0
130
Do not let yourMS eyes envy the kinds we have let them enjoy. They are the flower of this life, so that we can try them by them. YourMS Lord’s provision is better and more lasting.
0
131
Command yourMS family to perform prayers and endure it. We do not ask youMS for provision. We give youMS provision. Rewards are for the godly.
0
132
They said, “If only he would give us a sign from his Lord.” Has a miracle of what was in the earliest books not come to them?
0
133
If we had destroyed them with torment before him, they would have said, “Our Lord, if only youMS had sent us a messenger, we would have followed yourMS signs before we were humbled and ashamed.”
0
134
SayMS, “Everyone is waiting, so youMP wait, too. YouMP will know who is on the straight path, and who is guided.”
